Darren Shepherd-Loxton – Bodybuilding

Bio

I am from military family, so I grew up running every morning, playing every sport available and boxing from age 6. I took up Karate at 10, and was a black belt before I turned 13. I went on to earn a 2nd Dan black belt and take welsh & British tittles along the way. As a teen I pretty much trained and taught Karate every day. I went on to graduate with a Bsc Hons in Sport science, before going on to work in the fitness industry, promoting health & fitness all over the country. I finally settled in Abingdon Oxfordshire and with a friend, open Feelgood Fitness. It was here that I was talked into taking the plunge into calling myself a bodybuilder. That was 7 years ago and the rest is history. And the future has yet to be created.

Most Memorable

  • Taking 5th place at the British finals in my first year of competitive bodybuilding was the biggest shock. I had not made any of the top 5 call outs, so assumed I had not placed. Followed closely by my first Title in my mother land Wales, taking 1st in the lightweight men’s.

Aspirations / Goals

  • My goals have changes throughout my bodybuilding adventure. My only goal at the beginning was to step on stage and look like I deserved to be up there. With success, hunger & desire i now aspire to claim the Lightweight men’s British title, along with the Holy Grail in bodybuilding. A best wheels Trophy. We all know what it takes to earn that.

NO.1 FISSION NUTRITION SUPPLEMENT AND WHY?

AV-8tion gives me exactly what I want from a pre workout supplement. It’s not overloaded with caffeine like some, which can be counter productive. It gives me the perfect balance of energy and focus to get the job done. With the added bonus of active ingredients that also benefit my recovery.

FAVOURITE TRAINING ROUTINE AND WHY?

I am a massive fan of Y3T. It constantly keeps your body under a variety of different stresses. You never get complacent with your session and you’re accountable by your last workout. Each week faces you with a different set of challenges which forces you to get your head into it. It is not for the faint hearted and most people are put off by the crazy high rep week. (which is probably why i favour it) y outlook has always been, that i want to do what other fail to.

TYPICAL DAILY NUTRITION PLAN?

I am very much a high carb advocate. I have taken the time to use off season to increase my quality carb intake to a level that makes it relatively easy for me to lose body fat when I come to Pre for a show. I use 1g of Protein per lean lb of body weight. 147lbs = 147g of protein My carbs went up to 550g during my most recent off season, in which I found it easy to maintain a 10kg over comp weight goal. Creating a slight calorie deficit from here, when needing to get lean is easy. And means I can still eat plenty of food.
